A Brief History of the Weyauwega Arts Organization

opera houseIn March of 2007 Kathy Fehl and Ian Teal formed the Weyauwega Arts Organization. They applied for 501c3 status, which in due course was approved. Their hope was and remains to nurture young people, giving them an opportunity to express themselves. Besides this is the wish to devolop original theater pieces of all kinds, and bring them to the public. Kathy and Ian each have a background in writing, directing and producing theater and film.

Kathy and Ian purchased the Gerold Opera House in the summer of ’08, and began extensive renovations. The first big event was a concert with Annie Hughes, on November 31st of 2008.  We’re on a slow upward curve. We’ve received two grants.

In August of 2008 we met Holly Martin who has made it possible for us to progress. She built the website, worked on grants, and helped inspire us to continue. She has a theater and musical theater background and brings true enthusiasm and understanding, not to mention the willingness to join us in working for nothing (for now!).

Recently we have also been joined by Camin Potts, a graphics designer and art teacher, and gifted individual, who is going to be handling all of our workshops, designing our marketing tools and doing graphics for our website. She brings a level headed dedication and great skills.

Steve Prosniac, an Arts Administration student at UW Stevens Point, as well as a member of Buffalo Herd Theory (a band), and band manager, has joined us to learn marketing and help us with it, and to book bands and concerts.
